It was September 2008.
We had just moved up the Peninsula. We had just started our new church campus. Lulu was not yet two (and making me crazy), and my big kid woke up early and dutifully put on his little collared shirt for his first day of Kindergarten. We all tromped outside to take pictures by our beautiful flowers in front of our little green house.
My bestie was visiting. And, while she kept an eye on my little one (to keep her from tipping over the twinsies - 'because babies need to go to sleep!') we walked our boy up to his new school. We didn't know a soul. There were all these big, loud kids and unknown teachers. We were beginning something new: public school, in a new town and without a clue.
Day after day, we learned. We love our school and the friends we've met, and the joys and challenges our child has embraced. He has this "pack" of little sporty kids that have all played on one team or another with him. I know the parents now, stop and chat with the office staff, know what annual event is coming up each month, and I even have a couple of secret parking spots that I can claim when I'm running late.
Fast forward through all the other grade-school firsts: field trips, concerts, fundraisers, panoramas and state projects, band, and many an Art- in- Action afternoon.
May 2015.
We all gathered once again on the blacktop to cheer on our kid as he finished his time in elementary school and said his goodbyes to a place he loved and flourished in. Cousins, sister, bitty brother, friends, balloons, and of course, cake-- all made the day super special. So proud!
He spent the whole summer over-thinking: what would the big middle school be like? He was anxious. But, we could look back and see how many times God provided just what we needed- we truly experienced how trustworthy God is. He was always one step ahead of us; leading us; teaching us; helping us.
He is the God who provides. He provided this great school and each teacher and each friend and each opportunity. And, as it came to an end, I realized that door had to close in order for a new-- even better thing to begin. Do I trust that God knows my boy and loves him and has a great plan...and knows the best path for his life (both with trials and triumphs)?
Yes!
