The tradition of enjoying creation.
When I was 7, I did a little ballet dance to a song entitled "Sunrise, Sunset" from the musical Fiddler on the Roof. I thought it was the most boring thing ever-- but now, I appreciate the profoundness of how time moves forward one day at a time. God created the oceans and the skies with such beauty and if I get the chance to go and enjoy the sunset, I do! It reminds me of His great big-ness and my smallness. It reminds me that there is new grace for the new day that is coming. It reminds me to let go of guilt and the junk of the past and embrace the new-ness that is coming.
I love a good hike, an outdoor swim, just sitting in my car in the rain and watching the drops dance down my windshield. I love laying under a tree and looking at the shapes in the leaves, and watching as the clouds race across the vast sky. I love the fog. I love a little snow (not too much!)... I love a little sun (not Vegas style, though). I love the crispness of the air in the morning and the pink in the sky at night.
It doesn't have to be in a beach or in Hawaii, but simply stepping out front to sit upon my little porch bench can bring a calmness to my soul. Although, a few months ago in the DR I got to enjoy this sunset, and a few weeks ago, with only half an hour to spare, I jetted off to the coast to watch the sunset. Five minutes as the wind swirled about me,
I refocused, I breathed in deep, I was reminded of the Creator. The Creator who loves ...even me.
